Woman Enough on Shelves!

Woman Enough is at Pegasus Books on Cuba Street in Wellington

The past two weeks have been a dream come true. My book is on shelves in Wellington bookshops. It’s out there- like I always imagined- waiting for someone to find it.

On my way into the city, I started to sweat and feel kind of dizzy, which was odd because it was a rainy day. Solar heat wasn’t a factor. No, I know what it is. This is that feeling like I’m about to do something really big. Only a few times in my life have I ever experienced it, but not of this magnitude. Like something I’d only dreamed about as a young girl is finally going to be realised and… now what? I was going to hurl.

I patted the bag carrying my books as I navigated through crowds of people on the street and tried not to slip on the wet bricks. I blinked a few extra times to stop the slow motion sensation that arrives when one is actually living inside their dream.

The next day I drove around Upper Hutt and got lost. Can’t say I’ve spent much time there. My toddler in the back seat of the car was content with toys for a while but began to fuss in the buggy when we strolled into the next bookshop. Still elated from the dream-turned-reality, his protests didn’t distract me one bit.

I know I’m not the best writer, but I know I’m not shit either. What’s most important is that I love doing it. It’s as important to me as breathing. I love it so much that I want to keep learning, and be better. I want to grow as a writer, I want to expand my creativity, and I hope that never ever ends. This is what I’m meant to do. I didn’t believe it when I was a young girl, but I do now as an adult woman.

Becca’s imperfect, yet very real voice (the main character from my book) flowed, and everything in the Universe told me to share it. Even in moments of doubt, I had to share it. Even when I faced rejections, I had to share it. With every obstacle that came with this book, I knew I had to share it.

So here it is. Waiting just for you.

Aha! There she is. Only a few books away from Eleanor Catton!

Here’s where WOMAN ENOUGH awaits.
